Costa Food Group is making its debut in 2018 with its brands Piensos Costa, Costa Food Meat and Casademont where it will introduce its products at stand 431 in the Intercarn room (aisle D, pavilion 5).

Costa Food Group, the meat holding of Costa Business Group, will use Alimentaria 2018 to show its commitment to products that are natural from the source, obtained through the group’s vertical integration process which begins by controlling the pigs’ feed, the care of the livestock and the guarantee of food safety at all stages: birth and raising (Piensos Costa), butchering (Costa Food Meat), and the transformation and preparation of charcuterie products (Casademont). Controlling the entire process provides total traceability along the entire value chain, making it transparent.

As Jorge Costa, CEO of Costa Food Group explains, ‘our commitment to people, to the welfare of the end consumer, means respecting the environment and the animals. This can be seen on our farms which follow a philosophy of animal welfare.

In addition, direct distribution to the client – using our own fleet of delivery vehicles – allows Costa Food Group to control temperatures directly and guarantees that each food item arrives to the customer in the quality condition specified at the outset of Costa Food Group’s controlled circular process. At present, the group exports to 107 countries.

Second-largest pig producer in Spain

The origin of the Costa Food Group is linked to Piensos Costa, a leading company in the Spanish pork sector founded in 1966 in Fraga (Huesca). At present, it is the second-largest pig producer in the country and one of the biggest animal agriculture operations in Europe. It has over 600 associated farms.

The Costa Food Meat company (formerly Toni Josep) has a refrigerated pig slaughterhouse, large attached butchering facility and all the resources necessary for quick, effective product distribution. It exports to 40 countries and its slaughtering and butchering processes adhere to strict quality and food-safety standards to ensure prevention and control throughout the entire value chain of Costa Food Group’s circular process. At present, €25 million are being invested to expand the facilities and provide them with the latest technology to continue ensuring food safety. These improvements are in line with the Industry 4.0 concept that is already being implemented in coordination with Costa Food Group’s production centres.

The third of the group’s companies is Casademont, one of Spain’s main producers of charcuterie products thanks to the quality of its products. Acquired in August 2017 it has brought about a solid commitment to the gourmetisation of charcuterie production. All Casademont products are gluten-free; it exports to 70 countries, and its R&D&I department – that is committed to innovation – is constantly carrying out research to improve its product lines.

At Alimentaria 2018, Casademont will present its commitment to organic products as well as ‘Fuetis’, small packaged sausage sticks in a wide range of flavours that encourage the consumption of pork as a snack.
