This historic brand has joined the Costa Food Group holding, which significantly increases its presence in terms of the end consumer

Roler, with plants in Extremadura and Catalonia, adds 500 employees to Grupo Empresarial Costa, making it one of the largest meat groups in Spain

The Costa Business Group has acquired Roler, a leading company in the production of fresh meat products. This brand is thus added to the Costa Food Group holding, the only national meat purveyor which currently supplies chicken, pork and turkey. As Jorge Costa, CEO of the group explained: “The integration of Roler increases our current range with its wide assortment of fresh products. This represents an important step that drives us to continue growing, since it is one of the most cutting-edge and innovative companies in our sector. This move allows us to reinforce our commitment to being closer to the end consumer”.

Roler, which has two production plants in Peraleda De La Mata (Cáceres) and Terrassa (Barcelona), adding 500 employees to Grupo Empresarial Costa, currently has a turnover of 85 million euros. In addition to hamburgers, minced meat, sausages, meatballs and fajitas, Roler also specialises in the production of high quality products which are ready to eat, such as carpaccios, roast beef, tapas or its “Directo al plato” range.

With this new acquisition, Costa becomes one of the largest meat groups in Spain, with 4,500 employees and an aggregate turnover forecast of 1,750 million euros for the 2021 financial year.

Sustainability and people

Roler is also aligned with Costa Food Group’s sustainability values and is working on the reduction of plastic in packaging and on compliance with and respect for current animal welfare standards: «This aspect», emphasises Jorge Costa, «strengthens our ability to bring products which are certified with the AENOR Animal Welfare seal to the consumer. At Costa Food Group we committed ourselves two years ago to being the first national white pig meat supplier to certify our 850 farms and our entire production process. What is more, the care and well-being of people, both consumers and employees, is also a maxim that unites us”.
