Cruz Roja (Red Cross) and Caritas have received this cheque to enable them to organise urgently needed aid for the groups most at risk as a consequence of the pandemic
On behalf of the network of companies involved in the #AragonEnMarcha initiative, Grupo Empresarial Costa handed over €100,000 on Wednesday to social organisations in Huesca and Fraga, designed to help those people most badly affected by the economic crisis.
Grupo Costa joined the #AragonEnMarcha (run by CEOE Aragon) initiative back in March, contributing some €600,000 for the purchase and import of PPE and healthcare material that were desperately needed in the region.
This joint initiative now comprises 37 companies from Aragon that has, in very short order, raised €6.4 million. This has enabled ‘Salud Aragón’ to be supplied with 4.7 million pairs of nitrile gloves, 3.2 million surgical face masks and 900,000 FFP2 breathing masks, 10,000 rapid test kits and 5,000 PCR tests, in addition to a DNA extractor that has sped up diagnoses by some 30%.
After this contribution to the health sector, the business initiative turned its attention to the social front. With a donation of some €500,000, the initiative will help social organisations to channel their assistance to those groups most badly hit by the economic consequences of the pandemic. Cruz Roja and Caritas are two renowned organisations with a lengthy history and strong roots in the region and they were the recipients of this humanitarian cheque to cover the social needs within the province of Huesca and the town of Fraga.
“Once the first stage involving access to healthcare material was overcome, we wanted to support our neighbours in these times of great need”, stated Jorge Costa, CEO of Grupo Empresarial Costa.
All in all, Grupo Empresarial Costa has donated a total of €800,000 to tackling this coronavirus (CoviD-19), both in the form of initiatives from its component companies and in joint initiatives with other organisations.
